 Initially admitted to practice law in 1981, Richard F. Silber spent four years as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice, civil division, prosecuting cases under the False Claims Act and defending the government in contract cases in U.S. Claims Court. After several years in private practice at a defense contractor and a major law firm, he founded his own law practice in 1992. He now has more than two decades of experience representing injured clients.

Mr. Silber has been honored for his work by many organizations over the course of his career. He earned a Distinguished Service Award from the Department of Justice, an award for Outstanding Services as a Trial Attorney from the Civil Division, and a Distinguished Service Award from the Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance for his stellar efforts in the Tyra Hunter case. Education
Mr. Silber received his Bachelor's of Science degree in biology from Beloit College in 1975. He earned his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1981. After graduating from law school, Mr. Silber was accepted into the Honors program at the U.S. Department of Justice.

Mr. Silber is admitted to practice law in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. For cases in Virginia he works with local counsel. He is a long-standing member of The Association of Trial Lawyers in Washington, D.C.
Work in the medical field
Armed with his biology degree, Mr. Silber worked as a research assistant after college in the Department of Metabolism at the John Enders Pediatric Research facility located at Children's Hospital in Boston. His areas of research focused on cholesterol metabolism, Cystic Fibrosis, and other pediatric diseases.
Previous experience
Mr. Silber is no stranger to the inside of a courtroom. Prior to opening his own practice, he was a trial attorney in the Commercial Litigation Branch of the U.S. Department of Justice from 1981 to 1985. He has prosecuted government contractors under the False Claims Act, defended the U.S. government against fraud and contractor claims, and litigated other complex commercial litigation matters. From 1985 to 1989, Mr. Silber worked in the Corporate Counsel's office of McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing). While there, he worked on procurement, contract performance, and other legal issues associated with the F/A-18 Hornet, F-15 Eagle and AV-8B Harrier (V/STOL) tactical fighter aircraft programs for both United States and international aerospace clients.
Noteworthy cases
Mr. Silber's work as an advocate for wronged parties has had a profound impact on civil rights and community awareness in Washington, D.C. He represented the family of Tyra Hunter in a wrongful death case, earning a $2.9 million jury award against the D.C. Fire Department and D.C. General Hospital for withholding treatment from Ms. Hunter upon learning she was transgendered. He also received national press coverage for his work in a discrimination case against Washington paramedics who delayed medical treatment and used racist language while bringing a child with asthma to the hospital.
